For some reason, I have fond memories of roll call being given in the classroom when I was a kid. When roll call would begin, most of us would already be in our seats, bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready for class to begin. Others were sluggish and sleepy eyed, still making their way to their seats. The teacher would begin alphabetically reading the roll. I would listen with eager anticipation, waiting to hear the various voices each rhythmically responding with the required reply “Here!” However, some days some pupils were absent and therefore could not respond when the roll was called. Oft times, those of us who were present would inform the teacher where our missing classmates were, if we knew.
A few short weeks ago, 22-year old LaKisha Wilson’s life and the life of the baby in her belly, were snuffed out following a botched abortion at the Preterm abortion mill in Cleveland, OH. Due to this unfortunate chain of events LaKisha is no longer with us. So if a roll call were given, she could not answer.
Because LaKisha can no longer respond, it does not mean you and I can’t. Proverbs 24:11,12 urges us to, ‘Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?’ So, respond we did!
This Wed., Apr. 2, 2014, along with a host of others, I spoke at a press conference in front of the location in Cleveland, OH where LaKisha Wilson last responded to roll call. CLICK HERE to watch as I give a recent “roll call” of young Black women who have been either hurt or killed by abortion. Although this roll call is unlike any others, it still requires a response. The question is will you?
A roll call of young Black women recently hurt or killed by abortion-on-demand:
Semika Shaw — Killed by abortion in 2000 in W. Philadelphia, PA
Sherika Mayo — Killed by abortion in 2009 in Atlanta, GA
Tonya Reaves — Killed by abortion in 2012 in Chicago, I
LaCresha Hinton — Maimed by abortion in 2013 in Columbus, OH and reportedly will never be able to have children again.
LaKisha Wilson — Killed by abortion in March 2014 in Cleveland, OH
As I said during Wednesday’s press conference, this is just a roll call of the young “Black” women who’ve been hurt and killed, and it’s a partial list at that. We must be ever mindful that there are many other women of various ethnicities who’ve also been hurt and/or killed by abortion, all of whom we care about and grieve concerning. Enough is enough! It’s time for action!
Let me give a few simple, yet powerful ways you can respond:
Call and/or Write Ohio Department of Health, Interim Director, Mr. Lance D. Himes at 246 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215, 614-466-3543 and respectfully request that he suspend Preterm’s clinic license pending a full investigation into the death of LaKisha Wilson. Let’s make our voices heard!
Speak Out on behalf of LaKisha Wilson, remembering that she can no longer respond when the roll is called. Refuse to allow her death to be forgotten by telling others about her and by also informing them about abortion’s ever-increasing death toll. PRAY for the family of LaKisha Wilson. They are grieving very deeply and preparing to attend her funeral at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the House of The Lord at 1650 Diagonal Road, Akron, OH 44320, 330-864-9073.
Please take a moment and add a few encouraging words in LaKisha’s e-guest book on Ohio.com’s Obituraries page for her family and friends, like I did! Let’s show our love to this grieving family!
